Damage Control Rapid Plotting Tip 004
Linking DC Plotting to Damage Control Station Training (DCST)

A DCRS has small skilled teams to assess, engage and monitor casualty situations. Training them is sometimes very time consuming and difficult. Linking DC Plotting to DC Station Training is even more difficult.

What are we trying to do? Transition into rapid plotting, improve scenario set up and execution, increase level of knowledge in DCTT and provide an extremely useful and beneficial tool for shipboard training.

Each Damage Control Station Training (DCST) presentation is a composite of products covering specific situations to help train the trainee, the trainer and the evaluator to to use the techniques taught to attack the actual casualty. DCST is broken down by casualty types and consists of training, evaluation and action products designed to improve the knowledge and understanding of managing the casualty.

In the beginning, each (DCST) should be broken apart into the smaller pieces listed below. As knowledge level increases, these pieces are combined into building blocks that in the end tie it all together.

  1. Teach the DC Chit with Pics of damage to improve knowledge and understanding in reporting plotting damage
  2. Teach Manual Plotting from the filled out DC Chits
  3. Teach DCTT at the Scene - Setting up the Casualty with training aids, props, sounds of damage track for that damage and even photos.
  4. DC Team Casualty Response: Assess it – Fight it – Monitor it (Checklists)
  5. DCRS Equipment options and techniques
  6. Break out, Set up and use DCRS Equipment

In the future these stations will continue to build towards transforming damage control information into an electronic tactical data rich environment using DCAMS on mobile electronic devices such as PDAs and laptop notebooks.
